Peridot Bar

The interior unfolds as a continuous soft green plastered volume in which walls and ceilings merge seamlessly, forming a cocoon like spatial field. Embedded within this surface is a matrix of steel capped, frosted acrylic cylinders that emit a diffuse glow, punctuating the interior with a rhythmic, pixelated pattern. These elements reference Minimalist and Conceptual art precedents, including Carl Andre’s AI Cloud and Yayoi Kusama’s Self-Obliteration, while functioning as spatial markers within an otherwise fluid environment. Mirrored finishes capture and refract daylight and nighttime city views, producing a sense of constant visual transformation across the interior surfaces.
Materiality and colour are employed to heighten tactility and atmosphere. Plush mohair seating, high gloss custom lacquered furnishings, and integrated alcoves introduce moments of density and pause within the continuous shell. The design draws from the intimacy of historic smoking rooms, reinterpreted through abstraction rather than nostalgia, with familiar spatial cues refined into a forward looking hospitality environment defined by restraint and material precision.
Anchoring the lounge is a monumental bar carved from green marble, its mass providing a grounded counterpoint to the ethereal interior grid. Both functional and performative, the bar amplifies the gestures of bartending while subtly altering the acoustics of the space, intensifying the sensory experience at its core. The object reads as elemental, an architectural intervention as much as a piece of furniture.
Beyond the primary lounge, a concealed private room reveals a bespoke stainless steel and marble bottle display. Cantilevered and meticulously engineered, each holder reflects a balance of structural logic and sculptural expression. This secondary space introduces a moment of discovery, extending the narrative of the bar while reinforcing the project’s emphasis on detail, craft, and spatial sequencing.
Peridot Bar reconsiders the contemporary bar typology through immersive spatial continuity, calibrated material contrasts, and controlled theatricality. Every surface and object contributes to a cohesive interior landscape that feels simultaneously grounded and suspended, an environment attuned to human connection, sensory awareness, and the evolving rhythm of Hong Kong’s skyline.
